ABS Relegation Hurts

The 2012/13 Glo Premier League came to a conclusion over the weekend with Kano Pillars retaining the league shield despite the 0-2 reverse in Katsina-Ala against Lobi Stars, but the sad part of it all was the eventual relegation of Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club.
Arguably the best football-playing side in the Glo Premier League, many neutrals would have loved to seen them stay up, but unfortunately they will have to campaign in the Nigeria National League (NNL) next season.
The team is comprised of skilled youngsters, whom mostly are products of the Kwara Football Academy in Ilorin, and their style of play has earned them a lot of fans across country.
However, they may have to begin life in the lower rungs even as it is still not clear if coach Kabiru Sulaiman Dogo will remain with the team or not.
Combative midfielder Lordson Ichull, had a breakout year this season, and has been tipped for great things ahead, but the Benue-born player still cannot wrap his head to what went wrong this season.
"I still can't get over the fact that we have been relegated to the lower division, It hasn't sunk in yet," he told supersport.com after Oghenekaro Etebo's lone goal in Warri sealed their fate.
"We had a clear goal this term. The team wanted to get into the continent and that was our goal.
"Last season (2011/12) was like a learning curve, we were supposed to consolidate this season, but I still can't understand what went wrong.
ABS needed a win going into the last game of the season against Warri Wolves in Warri to have any hope of remaining in the top flight, but it wasn't to be as Wolves nicked it.
Ichull feels there are lessons to be learnt here by everyone in the team and has also decided to remain coy on his future.
"We've all learnt from this sad experience. I never thought I would be relegated with any team in my career.
"God knows best, and he will direct me whenever I make any decision going forward. I don't know what the future holds, I'll have to wait and see," Ichull stated.
ABS got relegated after finishing 18th on the 20 team log, with 50 points from 38 matches.
