Cup holders, Kano Pillars climbed to the top of the Glo Premier League following their 1-0 defeat of Enyimba International in the replay of their controversial Week 31 fixture. Enyimba were left to rue the string of lost opportunities, especially in the first half when they had three clear view of the net to put the game away at the very beautiful pitch of Confluence Stadium in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The replay was ordered by the Appeals Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in the apoeal filed by Pillars following the award of three points and three goals to Enyimba in an earlier ruling by the Organising and Disciplinary Committee of the NFF.
Substitute Manir Ubale, one of the six League title winers in 2009 with Bayelsa United nicked the all important goal that secured the maximum points for the Pillars team fondly hailed Masu Gida (Landlord) by their highly exuberant fans.
For Enyimba, the culprits were Victor Ezeji, Ndube Anaezemba and Ifeanyi Edeh who all flufed good chances for the Elephant Boys.
The win pushes Pillars to 60 points, two ahead of now 2nd placed Bayelsa United with three games to conclude the season. Of course, it was a good welcome for the Kwankwaso boys who are condemned to play their remaining home tie at the Lokoja ground. El-Kanemi Warriors are third on 57 points followed by Enyimba on 56 points.
