El-Kanemi Will Prove Critics Wrong – Buratai

Those who think El-Kanemi of Bornu will not end the season well because they are playing away from home will be disappointed, says Bornu State sports commissioner, Barrister Isa Buratai. Buratai believes one of the gains of the League Management Company’s decision to move El-Kanemi from Maiduguri to Kano is the team’s continuous impressive performance in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Commending the LMC for the reforms brought into the league, he said he is satisfied with the reforms by the LMC. He said the reforms have been responsible for El-Kanemi Warriors’ winning streak at home in their adopted ground of Kano. The Commissioner in an interview published in the LEADERSHIP Newspaper  said that his team will prove critics of LMC wrong by performing creditably well away from Maiduguri.

“The reform is aimed at standardising the league in Nigeria in line with FIFA regulations. You see, the reforms are meant to meet international standards and they are highly commended. With time if clubs comply with such reforms we shall meet international standards. It is a highly commendable effort and we really appreciate the LMC for doing a wonderful job. The league management company is really strict in organising and supervising the league matches. It is not surprising that teams go out and win or pick a point away from home. The combined efforts of Borno State governor Honorable Kashim Shettima, of course the management and committed players has lead to our present position. Ordinarily if we were playing at home, I am sure we would have been in the first position. All the same we are not losing hope.”

On some teams who say they will not come to Maiduguri because of security challenges, he said: “If they really mean they will not be coming to Maiduguri so be it. We can meet and beat them anywhere, either in Kano or at any other venue. Thank God the LMC is serious and we are witnessing changes that encourage you to win anywhere. Some teams said they will not go to Taraba and LMC said they must go and nothing happened in breaching of security. Their actions are only excuses to pressurize the LMC. The organising body should not succumb to their pressure because there is no state without one security challenge or the other.”
