Enyimba turn back Lobi Stars

Enyimba International made it two wins on the trot in Aba as they recorded their biggest tally of the season in a 3-0 dispatch of Lobi Stars.

The Peoples’ Elephant, runners-up last season, entered the match with the burden of vanishing fans said to have been turned off by their early exit from the CAF Champions League but Abdulrahman Bashir opened scoring on the 16th minute to reassure the slightly over 2000 fans that showed up at the 13,000 capacity stadium.

A splendid dash down the right side by Andrew Abalogu drew out goalkeeper Terkaa Melai in goal for Lobi and Abalogu easily sent a short pass inside the box for unmarked Bashir to lash in for his second goal of the season.

Bound to be named Enyimba man-of-the-Match, Abalogu was set free in the 25th minute by Mfon Udoh to head home in superb fashion past Melai, who had no wand to stop for Enyimba’s second.

Played under a very clement weather with signs of imminent rain that eventually went away, Enyimba consolidated their lead when Rasheed Olabiyi found Mfon Udoh with a side-footed diagonal that brought him in front of Melai. Udoh made no mistake netting his side’s third and final goal in the 82nd minute.

Lobi return to Katsina-Ala to tackle champions, Kano Pillars while Enyimba travel to Owerri in a Match Day 9 fixture against Heartland for the fourth Oriental Derby of the season and Enyimba’s third of the derby.
