One of the legs of the Oriental Derbies is set to take centre stage on Wednesday in the hilly city of Enugu. The Oriental Derby now involves four clubs, Rangers International FC, Heartland, Enyimba and Abia Warriors.
But it will be Abia Warriors heading to Enugu to face Rangers in the third Oriental Derby of this season in the Glo Premier League.
Match Day 8 will also have a clash of the bottom clubs, Nembe City and Heartland in Omoku just as Akwa United will travel to Jos in a bid to stay top of the league table.
Only nine matches will take place on Wednesday with the Kano Pillars versus Bayelsa United put on hold. Bayelsa United have been excused to prepare for the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup playoff against Sewe Sport of Cote d'Ivoire.
Rangers Int'l FC vs Abia Warriors
The Coal City, as some people call Enugu, will host this Oriental Derby. Abia Warriors have won one of the Oriental Derbies when they defeated Enyimba in Aba 1-0 while Rangers lost to Enyimba 1-2 in Aba.
Abia Warriors, playing in their first season in the elite division, are the best placed side of the four clubs. Rangers will be mindful knowing that Abia Warriors are capable of anything since they have a few experienced campaigners like Cletus Itodo, Wasiu Sowemimo, Chidozie Johnson in their fold.
Giwa FC vs Akwa United
New boys Giwa FC will put Akwa United's early superb run to test. The Jos club have played the big boys like Rangers and Kano Pillars at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos and have given them a run for their money.
Akwa United face in-form Giwa FC, yet to lose in their last four matches, without their big defender, Emmanuel Ariwa (ankle). It's going to be one thrilling game in J-town as Jos is referred to.
Dolphins vs Warri Wolves
Michael Egbeta, Kola Anubi and Okiemute Odah all return from suspensions to the Wolves squad for the trip to Port Harcourt. Dolphins haven't done any better in their last four games despite maintaining an unbeaten run in those matches.
Dolphins coach Stanley Eguma will be keen to see his team end their winless run. But Paul Aigbogun's Wolves will definitely stand in their way when they clash at the Liberation Stadium in the Garden City.
Nembe City vs Heartland
This is a clash between the two bottom-placed clubs. Last season, Nembe City both games against Heartland. It is also interesting to note that the two clubs are yet to win a match this season.
Nembe City will be pushing for a win just as Heartland will also be keen to start winning matches.
El-Kanemi Warriors vs Crown FC
Crown FC travel to Kano to face El-Kanemi on the back of three away losses. The away form of Lawrence Akpokona's team have been typified by their failure to score in those three away matches.
El-Kanemi have not lost in their last five match and will be favourites going into this clash with Crown FC. But the Ibadan club will fancy pulling the chestnut out of the fire.
Kaduna United vs Sharks FC
Sharks have proven to be one of the strongest teams so far this. Kaduna United will come up against some of the league's young prospects like Kelly Kester and Joseph Nathaniel in the Sharks team which will miss the leadership of their captain, Odinga Odinga who is on suspension.
One of the joint top scorer, Isah Aminu should star for Kaduna United in this game as he appears to be the man carrying the Crocodiles on his shoulders.
Nasarawa United vs Gombe United
Nasarawa United in 15th position go up against 16th-placed Gombe United in what looks like a cat and mouse game. Just goal scored separate both teams, who are tied on same points and same goal difference.
But Gombe United are still searching for a first point on the road in two years. That search will take them to the mining town of Lafia.
Sunshine Stars vs FC Taraba
FC Taraba's defence has been leaky in away games. They have conceded six in their last two away matches and scored just twice. Sunshine Stars find themselves in the bottom ahead of this match day.
Sunshine Stars have struggled to win games since. They have started the season though they've drawn two big games at Kano Pillars (2-2) and at Rangers (0-0).
Enyimba vs Lobi Stars
Lobi Stars have done poorly on the road so fa this season losing all of their three games without scoring. Certainly it is not the best form to take to Aba to face Enyimba.
Six-time champions Enyimba have picked a provisional squad for this clash and the list has intimidating frontline. Cameroonian striker, Rafael Boumsong as well as Sibi Gwar, Mfon Udoh and Abdulrahman Bashir are among the front men for this clash.
